The autumn equinox: opening the door to fall book tour signings and events

Life with Lucy is about to get busy.

From as far north as Ft. Wayne to as far south as Bloomington, including, Marion, Jonesboro, Gas City, Huntington, Kokomo and Noblesville, the Lucy’s Way fall tour is about to touch down in nine spots over the next few months.

But first, before all that…Happy autumn all!

Yes, it’s the Autumn equinox today, and for some this may come with a collective groan while others may welcome this change, which in Indiana is the beginning of shorter days and cooling temps as summer starts to quickly fade.

It also means we’re nearing the end of September, and my fundraiser with the Marion-Grant County Humane Society. But there’s still time. Click here for details.

Did you know that solstices and equinoxes don’t always occur on the same dates each year? It’s basically along the same lines as why we have that extra day every four years, but overall, equinoxes are the two times of the year that result in nearly equal day and night.

It’s not exact but it’s close.

So, think balance.

Even Stevens.

Yin and Yang.

Today, as this new season begins, so does the unfolding of a slew of new Lucy’s Way events. So along with the falling leaves and temps, and the anticipation of Halloween and Thanksgiving, there’s also going to be author fairs and signings, and speaking engagements and readings, as I hit the road with new opportunities to share the message of Lucy’s Way.

Here’s what’s in store. All the details, including addresses and times, are also available under upcoming events on the main page of the lucy-books.com website.

September 27: James Dean/Ducktail Run, Jonesboro, 10-3ish pm; Wende and I will be hanging out in her front yard for a book signing/sale with $10 of every sale going to Marion-Grant County Humane Society. More details on this September fundraiser in the link above.

October 1: Kiwanis Club speaking engagement at the Hostess House in Marion, 12-1; I was asked to share more about my journey in recovery, the writing of Lucy’s Way, and the mental health community at this lunch for Kiwanis members.

October 25: Barnes and Noble, Orchard Crossing Ft. Wayne, 3:30-5:30 pm. Heading north for my first Ft. Wayne book signing, with Barnes and Noble near Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center hosting me.

November 1: Morgenstern Books, Bloomington, 12:30-3 pm; Really looking forward to this event in Bloomington at Indiana’s largest independent bookstore.

November 7: Kokomo Howard County Public Library Author Fair, Kokomo, 5:30-8 pm; Part of the monthly first Friday festivities in Downtown Kokomo, this author fair is still tentative pending my selection for it. Looking forward to an opportunity to spread out to the Kokomo Community. Speaking of Kokomo, Heartland Magazine just published a personal account and book excerpt, see below!

November 8: Gas City-Mill Township Public Library, Gas City, 1-4 pm; Even though these events come with a smidge of anxiety, I really enjoyed the outpouring of love at my author talk/reading at the Marion Public Library in July, and I’m excited to get back to another talk and reading at this event.

November 15: Marion Public Library Author Fair, Marion, 1-3:30 pm; Another event that is pending my selection for it, the Harvesting our Stories local author fair will be a great opportunity to meet and work alongside other local authors while also getting the word out the story of Lucy’s Way.

December 6: Soul Weaver Alchemy, Huntington, 1-3 pm; Opening December in style, Sky Dawn Bickel’s sweet corner shop in Downtown Huntington will provide the perfect backdrop for this event. This will be another chance to do a reading as well as a signing, and I am looking forward to branching out into a new recovery community with this event.

December 13: Barnes and Noble, Noblesville, 1-3 pm; Back where the summer Have you Found Lucy’s Way tour began, I’m closing out the year in style with my second appearance at Barnes and Noble in Noblesville.

While I’m so excited for what the coming months hold, I’m also keeping in mind the equinox lesson of balance, and taking some time to truly look back and enjoy what these last several months have offered. I have been so blessed with all of the people who have hopped on this Lucy’s Way train, showing up at events, spreading the word, and keeping up on all the wonderful things that have been happening in this journey.

In the past month, the wonderful Laura Mack at the Marion Chronicle-Tribune published a review of Lucy’s Way, and Heartland Magazine offered me the opportunity to share a personal account of Lucy’s Way, along with a book excerpt, for their September/October pets issue. Laura’s review is already up on the site, and the Heartland story will be up soon.

Now, I’m off to start preparing, similarly but not exactly like a sumo wrestler slapping himself around to get ready for a match, for a busy rush of events, joys and blessings in this season before taking time to cool down over the final few weeks of 2025.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support.
