Last Saturday, the Marion-Grant County Humane Society held its first Rockin’ for Rescues fundraising event at the Gas City Performing Arts Center.

The fundraiser started with a public vendor event. According to veterinary technician Shea Buck, who organized the fundraiser, vendors donated part of their sales toward the Humane Society.

Vendors such as Wessons Canine Bakery, Hometown Petals and more, Rookies, Elephanique, Carey Services, Hounds Hankie, 104 Hardware Permanent Jewelry Bar and more were at the event selling their own unique pet care items such as treats, apparel, a build your own “barkuterie board” and more.

Additionally, there were two local authors on site selling and signing their books. Author Mark Saluke was a former manager at the Marion-Grant County Humane Society. He was signing copies of his book “Lucy’s Way,” a story about how he overcame addiction with help from his dog, Lucy. During the month of September, Saluke will also be donating $10 from each book sold to the humane society.
